Position Overview
The Museum Exhibition and Planning Specialist is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing engaging museum exhibitions. This role involves collaborating with curators, educators, designers, and other stakeholders to develop exhibition themes, layouts, and interpretive materials. The specialist ensures that exhibitions are educational, accessible, and in alignment with the museum’s mission and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the planning, development, and installation of museum exhibitions from concept to completion.
• Collaborate with curators, educators, conservators, and external partners to develop exhibition content and themes.
• Coordinate logistics for exhibition design, including layout, lighting, display cases, and multimedia components.
• Oversee the creation of interpretive materials such as labels, wall texts, catalogs, and digital content.
• Develop project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation plans for exhibition projects.
• Ensure compliance with museum standards for safety, accessibility, and conservation.
• Supervise installation teams and contractors during exhibition setup and takedown.
• Conduct post-exhibition evaluations and gather feedback for future improvement.
• Stay current with trends and best practices in exhibition design, museum education, and visitor engagement.
• Assist with grant writing and reporting for exhibition-related funding.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Exhibition Design, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years professional experience in museum exhibition planning or related areas.
• Strong project management skills, including budgeting and scheduling.
• Proficiency in exhibition design software and digital tools (e.g., SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Understanding of museum standards for accessibility, conservation, and visitor experience.
